Suffolk Record Offices (www.suffolkcc.gov.uk/sro), located at Ipswich, Lowestoft and Bury St Edmunds. Each office has records from District Councils, Boroughs, Parish Councils, ecclesiastical parishes, chapels, schools, businesses, organisations, charities and families in their areas, including the Census records up to 1901. Interestingly, Suffolk is the most heavily-used local authority archive service in the UK, with nearly 40,000 visitors a year. The Ipswich Record Office includes the financial, technical and production records of Garretts of Leiston, as well as all the local parish records. (The national archive is held at the Public Record Office: www.pro.gov.uk)
