King’s Proclamation Ceremony

Proclamation of King Charles III

A note from Town Council Chair, Di Eastman:

“I was very privileged, as Chairman of Saxmundham Council, to attend the Proclamation ceremony in Ipswich for the County of Suffolk on Sunday at 1.00pm, receive the scroll, and in turn return with it to undertake the Proclamation on Sunday afternoon at 3.30pm on the steps of the Market Hall in Saxmundham.  The Proclamation party comprised William Kendall, Esq, DL, myself as Chairman, Denis Bloomfield, Royal British Legion, our County Councillor, Richard Smith, MVO, and the Rev Dave Preece and Rev Nic Stuchfield, SKC.

To be part of such an historic occasion was a true honour for me and extremely moving; we won’t see another like it in our lifetime and it was good to meet 22 Chairs and Mayors from across Suffolk to share our memories of HM Queen Elizabeth II.  I would like to thank the Interim Town Clerk and her staff for so ably supporting me throughout the weekend, along with my friend, Jane Anderson, Chair of the Saxmundham Poppy Appeal, who drove me to and from Ipswich and was there for me on the Sunday. Thank you too to the residents of the Town who came along to witness the Proclamation. God Save the King!”
